MSNBC - The time has come to let Terri Schiavo die
Once again, we are responding to the question is the time come to let Terri Schiavo die? This is a real legal and moral dilemma that we really don't have the answer for.
First of all, we must ask ourselves if this was us- would be want to be taking off life support and other devices that would keep us alive if we were in a irrevisble vegetative state.
Who has the right to make life and death decisions for us?
What does the Catholic Church have to do with and what does the Federal and State of Florida government have to do with this.
Don't get me wrong, I am a Christian-Catholic, but we can still disagree with the Church Teachings and still be a good Christian-Catholic. There are somethings that need to be left undisturbed by both the Government and The Church- ( any church).
I respect that fact the if Terri was alive. She would want to follow the Church teachings. However, some of the church teaching are flawed. I am the first one to admit that some of the Church doctrines are not biblically-based and scripturally sound. They have no leg to stand on.
First of all, we don't know how long it will take before Terri Schivao will die of starvation? My experience is I have dealth with people dying and having to make such decisions if they became in such a vegetative state . I am lucky that the persons have passed away on their own before I had to make the very painful decision to remove all forms of life sustaining equipment to keep them alive.
Most of the persons I have had the durable power of health care for have specifically stated they did not want to be bought back if their hearts stopped. Or if they became comatose . That they wanted to be kept comfortable and no life support or other such equipment to keep them away and just let them go peacefully and with respect and dignity.
Most of them have been comatose and went peacefully. Thank God.
Terri Schiavo is still alive. Her heart still beats. I wonder how much brain activity is actually be recorded. It is a cold, cruel fact that she will never get better and the prognosis is grim.
I can not blame the parents for being hopefully. But we have to be realistic. All the neruologists have concurred that Terri is not going to get better and she will always stay in a perpetual state of vegetation.
Yes, we must bring up the question of who is going to continue to pay for the hospice and Terri's care at the hospice? This is a very important question. We must not dog it.
Someone afterall has to pay for Terri's long term care and it has been a long time. We know that hospices charge by the day and they are expensive.
The medical experts have already stated that Terri Schiavo is not responding to stimuli and all.
I think the Schindlers, Terri 's parents need to come to terms that their daughter had a psychiatric disorder either Bulimia or Anorexia Nervosa.
It is a known fact that Anorexia Nervosa is a life threating and life ending disorder. It is also an OCD.
The big question now is The is The Time Comes to let Terri Schiavo die and die in peace, and dignity.
We certainly have a moral and legal dilemma on our hands.
